The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the body with responsibility for enforcing UK consumer protection and competition law and for carrying out investigations and prosecutions where there are suspicions that offences involving cartel agreements, such as price fixing, market sharing and bid rigging, are being committed. The CMA also has the power to prosecute breaches of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.
While the CMA took over some of the enforcement responsibilities of the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) after it was abolished in 2014, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) prosecutes all offences that were within the OFT’s remit, including consumer credit offences.
If you find yourself the subject of an investigation by the CMA or FCA, Wilford Smith’s Criminal Defence Solicitors can provide expert legal advice to support you throughout this process, working quickly and effectively to satisfy any queries raised by investigators within the tight timeframes required.
